Would it be possible to get something like a 'prompt post' tag so that people can track the tag for when new prompts are posted? Following/tracking the community puts people's works on my reading page too and I want to be sure that I don't miss the prompts when they go up.
Forgive me if this has been addressed but was there a rule change for the 10/20? Noticed the bit about filling at least 10 prompts to triplicate the max wordcount was gone for this month's and would just like some clarification ^___^;;;;
You are right; there were some small changes to the rules to make participation even more simple. (Applies to 10 out of 20, Picture Prompt Fun and Bingo)
1. You can mix up any prompts of a challenge in whatever way you like. Use 2 prompts in one work, or 7 prompts, or even 20 prompts.
2. The maximum number of words for every single prompt is 300; e.g. if you use 2 prompts, your maximum for the work will be 600.
A third change of rules applies to the Comment Quicky. The maximum number of words there is 100 now (not 1 sentence).
I've decided to make these changes because I've noticed that some people enjoy creating small works while others prefer to do longer ones (and sometimes ignore the rules ;) ). Because this is a community to have fun, not a challenge where you can earn points, I decided that it can't hurt to be a bit more open to longer/bigger works.
I just realized that I posted a work for the August 10 out of 20 challege on AO3 and my personal journal, but not here. Can I still post it here? I wrote it in August
hi there! i was wondering if it would be possible to add a tag for works based on cartoons? "tv" seems to be mostly, if not entirely, live action, so i was hesitant to tag my mlp fic with that.
Hello! Thanks for this beautiful comm; I've been enjoying reading along since last spring ♥ What are your thoughts on sweet and short non-English works? I don't see any in the AO3 collection and in my experience they're commonly disallowed in dreamwidth challenge communities, but I also didn't see anything against it in the rules so I thought I'd ask :) Thanks so much and have a great day!
Thank you. I am glad that you enjoy the comm. And yes, non-English works are welcome, as long as the header is posted in English and there is a short note about the original language.
Hi, I'm new to this comm, and I have some questions about the Comment Quicky challenges and about commenting customs in the comm:
1. If I post a haiku in English, must it have exactly seventeen syllables, or is less than seventeen syllables OK? (I've heard that haikus in English should have less than 17 syllables, to get a "feel" in English that's similar to one that seventeen syllables in Japanese would evoke...)
2. Must shortfic and haiku responses to Comment Quicky challenges always include the prompt word, or is it OK for them just to be inspired by the prompt word?
3. Are brief explanations OK, or should Comment Quicky responses stand without them? For example, would it be OK to say something like the following before a haiku?:
"This is what came up for me for the prompt word 'velleity:'
[followed by short work that was inspired by but doesn't use that prompt word]
4. What are accepted community customs for commenting on others' works? (I can imagine that one or more of the following might apply...):
a. Don't ever do that?
b. It's OK to react in DW comments, but ONLY IF the creator says they want reactions?
c. It's OK to react in DW comments, UNLESS creator says they DON'T want reactions?
d. If the work is hosted somewhere off DW (like ao3), it's OK to comment there unless the creator explicitly says otherwise.
First of all, Sweet and Short is a low-pressure community, and as long as you have fun, almost everything is okay. Yes, we have some rules, and it's appreciated when you follow them. But no one will control your work, so if a haiku has 17 syllables or only 15, that's totally fine.
You never have to include the given prompts in your work; everything is okay, as long as you can see the connection between the prompt and your work.
Brief explanations are okay but not necessary. For comment quicky, you can also make a short note including fandom and prompt in the subject line.
Feel free to comment on every work (at DW or elsewhere); I trust you that there won't be any insults and/or fandom/character bashing.
1. If I want a work of mine on my journal also, do I need to post the work here first & then repost it to my journal later? Or should I only leave a link to my fic I posted here on my journal?
2. Are proship(y) works allowed? I add warnings for the content on such works, but I'd figure asking first is better for everyone.
Welcome to sweetandshort. Sorry for answering so late; I wasn't around for some days. 1. Yes, you can post your works to your journal (or any other place as long as they are unlocked). But please leave a small header and a link to the community to keep it alive. Thank you.
2. Feel free to post proshipy works at the comm, but always use a cut and put warnings in the header.
