Title: At the End of the Day
Fandom: OZ (HBO)
Characters: Tim McManus & Leo Glynn
Rating: G
Word Count: 228
Prompt: Protest
Summary: Some days are easier than others to pry Tim away from work
The door to Tim's office opened and he heard the warden let out a sigh.
“Go home, Tim,” said Leo.
Tim thought about making a protest. There was still so much work to do before Em City had its formal re-opening next week. There were lists to go over, new rules to implement, and new staff to hire- hopefully none of them would think of handing off a firearm to one of the prisoners.
Leo stood waiting at the door for him to get up and follow him out the door.
“Why are you here so late?” asked Tim.
“There was an incident in Unit C. I was working on damage control.”
“Never a dull moment.”
“There are some days when I wished I'd pick a different line of work,” Leo said.
“I'm glad you didn't.”
“You're just thinking that another warden wouldn't put up with you.”
“Another warden wouldn't have even thought about re-opening Em City. The prisoners are lucky to have you, Leo, even if they don't say so.”
They walked in silence through the gates of the “new” Em City. Leo pressed the button to seal off the experimental unit.
“Feel like shooting some hoops before going home?” asked Tim.
“And give you an excuse to stick around here a little longer? Keep walking, McManus.”
Tim laughed. “I'll see you tomorrow, Leo.”
“Good night, Tim.”
